DPL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Dynamic Pulsed Light (DPL)?

DPL is a form of permanent hair reduction. In a DPL treatment we use light to treat your hair follicles. The frequency of light penetrates the skin and reaches your hair follicle, permanently weakening its ability to grow hair. DPL is basically the bigger, better, faster, stronger sister of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The goal of both technologies is the same: permanent hair reduction. However, DPL gets you there just as safely but faster, which we all appreciate.

What do I need to do prior to my DPL appointment?

For optimal DPL results, we need to be able to treat the hair follicle. This means, prior to your DPL appointment, you should shave the area where you are getting a treatment. We recommend shaving 12-24 hours before if you have sensitive skin. If you have less sensitive skin, you can shave even just a couple hours before your appointment.

What if I do NOT want to shave prior to my DPL appointment?

We understand that some areas might be too sensitive or difficult to shave (e.g. face, upper lip, neck, bikini/Brazilian). We also understand that some clients simply do not want to shave their hair (e.g. very sensitive skin, other reasons). For these special situations, we do provide waxing services. Please look at our Waxing Menu + Prices for the prices provided. If you are doing a DPL treatment, we will provide the waxing for that area at a 40% discount. However, we must caution you. The best DPL results are attained when we shave and pulse the hair. Thus, please note that if you are waxing (or sugaring) prior to your treatments, you may see results at a slightly slower pace.

What should I NOT do prior to my DPL treatment?

Avoid long and sustained periods of sun exposure immediately before your treatment. Prolonged sun exposure can cause sun burns which sensitises the skin. Also avoid using any abrasive peels (acid) and harsh exfoliants immediately before your treatment. These types of treatments typically leave your skin sensitive for 1-2 days (depending on the person), which can result in a more painful DPL experience.

Is my skin type suitable for DPL?

The beauty of DPL, unlike laser treatments, is that it can be used on a much broader range of skin types and tones. We can work with dark brown skin tones all the way to very light skin tones. If you have special circumstances (many tattoos, flawsome birth marks, eczema, etc.) please feel free to reach out to our glo team and we'd be happy to answer your questions.
